There are many aspects of this story, but it’s not just what happened, but how the different parts of the criminal justice system imposed this obscene injustice on an innocent man, his family, his community, and the people of Indiana for 13 years.

 

All parts of the system are laid bare in both books in gripping detail, including the actions of the incompetent investigators, politicized and corrupt  prosecutors, and bogus crime scene investigators. Meanwhile, the ruling of five different trial court judges all heavily favored the State of Indiana.

Both books are told from the perspective and involvement of Gary M. Dunn, a retired 27-year FBI Agent who became David Camm’s defense investigator in 2004. Their Bloody Lies is a detailed examination of the original investigation and a look-back at the first prosecution/trial of Dave which resulted in three murder convictions.

​

Their Bloody Lies continues with the successful appeal and the overturning of the convictions and the introduction of the “Fresh Eyes” team of new investigators. Rather than re-examine the case, the new prosecutor engaged in the same lies and re-charged Dave with the murders, as he and his investigators ignored critical evidence, failed to purse logical investigative leads, and accepted the lies of the real killer. Also used by that same prosecutor were the manufactured and heinous motives which had slimed Dave in the court of public opinion throughout the first trial.

The Reckoning contains a summary of Their Bloody Lies and then takes the reader through a shocking journey of the second trial for Dave, revealing the head-scratching thoughts of jurors and the basis for their verdicts. And then, incredibly, due to the repeated lies and overwhelmingly prejudical false claims of the second trial, those convictions were also overturned, but only barely, by the Indiana Supreme Court, 3-2, as the Chief Justice made erroneous conclusions in his dissent.

Prior to the third trial, and hidden from the public for years was the unethical conduct of the second prosecutor, as he attempted to keep himself on the case, by lying about his conduct and then wasting yet more taxpayer money, as the State of Indiana would eventually spend $5 million on their unrelenting attempts to convict an innocent man.

​

The Reckoning reveals the lengths the final two prosecutors would go to secure a conviction at all costs, including using the devil-worshipping psychopath as their star witness while denigrating the memory of the mother who died trying to save her children.

​

The jurors in the third trial who were subjected to the lies of the "Fresh Eyes," perjury of the State's witnesses, and the shocking testimony and actions of Boney, offered their unvarnished opinions to the author as to the asppalling conduct of the ISP investigators and prosecutors which won't be found anywhere else. 

​

Even after the last criminal trial was over, it didn't end, as the State of Indiana fought relentlessly against David as he sought civil compensation for his wrongful arrests and incarcerations.

Although The Reckoning has a concise summary of Their Bloody Lies, those wanting to know of the full extent of the incompetence and corruption by those in the Indiana Criminal Justice system are encouraged to read both books.
